Yesterday was FUN! There was some fear and some faith involved and I did get faster - took almost a minute off my time, so I'm happy. I may still be taking 'granny lines' and walking (sliding) down parts of the track but everyone was supportive and cheering me on and I came third. Yes - this is me. Can't wait til next time!

FEAR inspires FAITH
FEAR is what I'm feeling at the thought of tacking the Gelnorchy Downhill track on Sunday. I've heard it said that it is one of the hardest in Australia. It is steep and loose and rocky and yep - it scares me s*&%less.
FAITH is what I need to find more of to be able to ride some sections, which I have got off the bike and walked or rather, slid down on my two previous attempts.
I am looking forward to it - strangely. It is the third race in the Tassie downhill points series and while I'm no match for the faster, younger girls, I am actually - strangely - currently second in the series. BTW - that's NOT me in the photo, but it is what I'll be riding down.
FEAR often inspires FAITH as we seek something outside ourselves in difficult situations.

Faster - again
Last Sunday I came 3rd in the first round of the Tasmanian State Downhill series, setting another PB time. I keep getting faster, thanks to God.
Faith, fast, fun!
This weekend several of my friends are in Adelaide for the first round of the National Downhill series. I've wished them all good luck and told them to ride fast and have fun!
"Adventure before dementia" - saw this on a spare wheel cover on a 4wd - love it!!

4,000+ FAST (not me) but FUN!
4,000+ people walked and ran the Burnie 10 on Sunday 19th October, and just for something different our Devonport TAFE library staff walked the 10kms for the first time. We're all reasonably fit, and had a fun time walking, talking along the road beside the beach in Burnie and completed the walk, a little tired but not too sore, in 1 hour 40 minutes. Reckon we'll do it again next year!

FASTER...
Faster is how I went in my second race last Sunday at The Lea near Hobart on a very very windy day. I had a lot of fun hanging out with those fabulous female friends who are as crazy as me. There were four us which is a good turnout for the girls. I managed to ride faster and fly over more of the jumps and rocks than ever before, but I did have trouble finding the faith to ride freely around one rocky corner after a hard fall which made me very thankful for my full-face helmet. It now has some new scratches on the front. And, you should see the technicolour bruises on my hip and thigh - well, maybe not. I am so sore! But I will do it again! And pray for more faith to go faster (with fewer bruises)!

Flat out
Well, another month has gone by. I've been flat out, working, buying and painting an investment property, and not finding much time to ride. Did spend 3 days in Canberra watching the fast pros riding in the UCI World Cup mountain biking. That was COOL FUN!! (and freezing)
This is my friend Leigh from Canada riding in the World Cup race. She came 16th and she's not a professional, so she did really well. I bought her old bike, so hopefully, with a bit of faith, I'll be as fast one day.
Off to Hobart tomorrow for a bit of much needed r&r (racing and relaxation)

FIRST RACE
Yes! I did it! I went in my first downhill mountain bike race last Sunday at The Lea, just south of Hobart. I came 2nd (out of 2 women) Check out the attached picture. Notice the very well strapped up right wrist which is still giving me a bit of trouble since Mt Buller in January. And the lack of body armour or even sleeves to protect my upper body. So I did ride carefully but reasonably fast - for me. I was the slowest rider on the day but I didn't fall off and my time was still respectable.
I had a great day. Just thought I'd share.

Full on!
FULL ON!! describes the weekend I've just had. Saturday - took Joel mountain biking at Trevallyn in Launceston and then to watch the Crusty Demons motocross show. Those guys are amazing! And then spent all day Sunday watching Australian National Drifting at Symons Plains - a whole day of burning rubber and dust! Actually it was quite fun! Joel is going to edit together a video for youtube.
Next weekend - downhill mountain biking and bushwalking - woohoo!

FRACTURED
Fractured is what I suspect I actually did to my right wrist while mountain biking at Mt Buller in Victoria back in January. Well - actually, to a little bone in my hand called the scaphoid bone. It's been giving me trouble over the last couple of weeks. You know something is wrong when it hurts of take off a coat, or undo your bra, and a number of other little everyday things. It's five years since I've had to go to a doctor about anything.

FRUITLOOP!
"Fruitcake" is what I thought as I looked down from the top of the mountain at Thredbo at what I was about to ride down. I must be 'flippin freaked-out fruitloop to be attempting this, especially at my age"
But,several hours and about 16 bruises later...
Coming down the mountain
Stayed tuned for more...
